BURTON RACE2GRACE (Burton - 2018 - 5K)

Image
Burton Race2Grace 2018 Photos 67 Mile Drive The 2018 Race2Grace was my first completely unexpected age group win.  We found I won third place two minutes after leaving the run. It was my first run back from my pelvic fracture.  The course was flat and went through neighborhoods starting from Center Point Church.  They had a wonderful post-race food tent with a separate gluten-free area!!! I was so excited for Luke.  There was so much food!  I won a $100 Meijer gift in the raffle!  They called a woman that had gone home already and I was the re-draw.  I love the lion cross race logo that was on the medal and shirt.  I missed the 2018 Burton Memorial Day Run/Walk just weeks after Race2Grace.  I overslept in the morning.  I felt really bad about it, but on the plus side I only need three of the Burton events to get the series medal.  I like that Burton allows participants to miss of one event and still qualify for the seri...

SHAMROCK RACE (Plymouth - 2018 - 5K)

Image
Shamrock Race 2018 Photos .8 Mile  Walk The 2018 Shamrock Run was my first 5K walk in the middle of an eight week recovery from a pelvic fracture.  I dressed up the giant plush dinosaur Baxster that I had in many of my recovery photos.  I decorated the kids wagon and made it a mini float with Baxster in it for St. Patrick’s Day.  It was extremely festive, green and shamrocky.  I was the fourth to last female in my age group to finish the 5K and 205/223 overall for the one mile.  Pulling a wagon was tough.  I think an 18 minute mile was pretty good with my unique circumstances.  I was happy to be out walking.  It didn’t cause me pain as running still did.  I took home first place in the costume contest.  I got a race pint glass for the costume win.  I also got two separate shamrock medals for the 5K and one mile.  I got to walk with Andrea for both events.    Plymouth City Page

HOODIE HOO (Harrison Township - 2018 - 5K)

Image
Hoodie Hoo 2018 Photos 47 Mile Drive The 2018 Hoodie Hoo was a wonderful 5K run around Lake Saint Clair at Lake Saint Clair Metropark.  It was one of my most scenic runs around water.  It was very cold running near the water in March.  There was a great indoor park building to with ample space for all participants and their families.  Jason and the kids stayed inside the building when I went out to start the race.  At almost exactly the half-way point of the race (1.5 miles) horrible pain set in near my inner thigh.  I slowed down and started to power walk to see if it would go away.  Walking still hurt, but not as bad as running had.  Other runners started to pass me and it quickly got very cold.  I saw my friend Jeff making a loop near me.  He was way ahead in the course.  Finally, I was left with walkers, a lot of which had dogs.  I enjoyed their company but was still very sad.  It was an extremely tough race for...

WINTER LOOPS (Rochester Hills - 2018 - 2 Hour)

Image
Winter Loops 2018 Photos 44 Mile Drive Winter Loops was my longest run to date.  I signed up without practicing for a longer distance.  I did nine miles in a two hour timed continuous run.  I got my ninth mile in with only 42 seconds to spare!  Winter Loops was my first real trail run!  I love trail runs.  This run was especially scenic with winter snow on the trees.  No headphones are needed.  Nature is amazing.  One runner was blasting cool music in the woods.  I liked the repetitive course.  It was awesome coming into check-in at the lodge and getting “loops” checked off.  I got to know the trail well after so many loops.  They had wonderful soup, a wood burning fire and nice race swag.  I got a medal and beanie hat.  I warmed up quick in the cozy lodge after the run was over.  I saw Crazy Jeff and Connie!  We stopped at Cabela's on the way home.    Rochester Hills Page

BURTON HOT FUDGE RUN & WALK (Burton - 2018 - 5K)

Image
Burton Hot Fudge Run 2018 Photos 69 Mile Drive The 2018 Hot Fudge Run was my fastest 5K since I began running in late October.  My time really surprised me with the cold temperatures.  The Burton Race Series was my first running series.  I didn’t know what to expect from it.  I love the fact they have a series competition medal that is given out at their last run of the year in November.  The run started and finished at Bentley High School.  It was a nice venue.  I met a blow-up marshmallow man when we arrived.  That’s when I knew the series was special.  We ran over 69 on an overpass!  It was awesome.  It had a spiral ramp up to the top on both sides.  I came in 4th in my age group.  The post-race atmosphere back in the school was amazing.  They had awesome fruit, graham crackers and marshmallows with chocolate to dip them in.  They also had hot chocolate and chili!  We went to Frankenmuth after the ...

UNDIE RUN (Detroit - 2018 - 5K)

Image
Cupid's Undie Run 2018 Photos 26 Mile Drive I DID THE CUPIDS UNDIE RUN!  ...What was I thinking!  It got cancelled due to weather.  The city of Detroit felt it was unsafe with the amount of snow and ice on the roads to hold the large event.  The 2018 Cupids Undie Run became a huge indoor drinking dance party in underwear that I was not interested in.   I met Bob from Century Club for the first time in our underwear.  That's a great ice breaker.  He always does a theme where his boxers match his hat.  I put together a great purple sloth outfit with a matching purple wig that I ordered online.  I had knee high purple sloth socks and a small sloth plush that clipped on.   Bob and I met a group of undie runners by the giant cement Detroit Tigers Paws statue and took some funny group shots.  I got picked up by a random guy and twirled around.  We decided to run around Tiger Stadium because we were bummed the r...

SUPER 5K (Novi - 2018 - 5K)

Image
Super 5K 2018 Photos 8.1 Mile Drive For the Super 5K I made matching homemade football shirts with glowing foam field goal sticks.  I drove to packet pick-up the night before at Novi High School.  They gave us so many cool race goodies!  We got a face bluff, gloves with the race logo, a pint glass and super cool race BIBS with TVs!  That was all in addition to a wonderful football themed race medal.  The race started at Novi High School with a course weaving through neighboring subdivisions.  It was a snow race with donuts and music on the course!  There were race volunteers standing on a truck bed blasting music at us.  Inside the school they had post-race hot dogs waiting for us.  We got to meet a Detroit Lion's player and the Lion’s mascot!  This was the first run dad came to.  We got McDonald's after the run with the kids.  I used a coupon given to me in an email from my registration to get an Absopure water ta...

BUFFALO WILD WINGS 5K (Canton - 2018 - 5K)

Image
Buffalo Wild Wings Run 2018 Photos 3.1 Mile Drive The Buffalo Wild Wings Run was the last group run at the Road Runners store.   I saw a very similar group of runners and store employees from the Pancake Run.  Our course was also the same exact path on the Fellows Creek Nature Trail.  I loved eating wings back at the store after the run!  We got an awesome long sleeve tech shirt, a great medal with wings on it and a cool lunch box.  I bought another pair of winter spikes, shorts and a sports bra for great deals.  Sadly, the entire store was on sale.  They were selling décor and display furniture which included a wall mounted rock fountain.  Road Runner was going out of business for good.    Canton Page
