Pinch the Grinch - 2019 - 5K

The 2019 Pinch the Grinch in White Lake was short and sweet with a very scenic drive. The drive had a lot of round-abouts in the Commerce Township area.  My Waze GPS Cookie Monster was nonstop with his round-about spiel.  It was hilarious and annoying..."Round about in 1...2...3....me like cookie!"  I met the pinching Grinch during and after the race....More

   Burton Veteran's Day Run 2019 Photos 72 Mile Drive The 2019 Burton Veteran’s Day Run was nothing short of amazing.  The Burton Race Series is a series I will keep coming back to every year.  There are so many wonderful people involved in the Burton Race Series. Every year they their events get better and better.  The kindness of their staff is simply unmatched.  I always sign up for the series early.  I remember registering for the Veteran’s Run run back in the Spring but for some reason I was not in the system at packet pick-up.  This was a first for me.  I had already completed three of the four series races this year.  I could have walked away with a series medal and gone home.  The wonderful race director came to the rescue.  She acted like she knew me.  She knew we had driven a distance to come up and that I had done the Burton Series before.  She registered me immediately and waived the fee.  I was at a ...

THE ZOMBIE DASH (Grand Rapids - 2017 - 5K)

   The Zombie Dash 2017 Photos 142 Mile Drive First 5K!! First zombie run!! I found the Zombie Dash when we were living in Grand Rapids in 2016. I stumbled upon a bunch of zombies downtown one night and asked what was going on. I told Jason that next year I was going to run that race and I registered for it a month later. I walked a lot but still managed a fairly decent first 5K time with no running history (No cross country or track in high school)  It was not as scary as I thought it would be, but some zombies did make me jump in the dark. I was hooked after The Zombie Dash.  I knew I wanted to come back next year, but I also wanted to keep running 5Ks.  It was a mental and physical boost.  Grand Rapids Page

BEAT THE TRAIN (Marne - 2020 - 5K)

   Beat the Train 2020 Photos 153 Mile Drive The best competitor to run against is not a human being…it’s a train!  I love unique races that stand in their own league.  Beat the Train was just that.  I had been excited about it when it had its original date of March 21, 2020.  When 99% of runs got cancelled in late March I was worried Beat the Train would postpone until 2021.  I didn’t want to wait that long to run against a train.  I also didn’t want it to go virtual.  A virtual run would have been a very bad option for a run against a train.  The race director sent lots of emails with surveys about the unique circumstances they were facing and finally decided on postponing the event until November 7th.  I knew it would be worth the wait and was glad they didn’t cancel.  It was sad that they refunded family tickets.  It would have been amazing for Jason and the kids to be in the train as spectators.  With the coronav...
