27 Mile Drive

The A2 Turkey Trot had the most amazing post-race hot dogs!  It was my first turkey run and my first course at the beautiful Hudson Mills Metropark.  I saw Jake, Andrea and my 5K grandma. I ran a Mackinac Bridge qualifying time! A lot of people were wearing turkey hats.  I couldn’t decide the night before if I should wear a pre-cooked or cooked turkey hat.  I got a great free massage after the run and the kids were given ice cream by a worker at the Mill.  We grabbed lunch with Andrea’s family afterwards in downtown Dexter before heading home.

   Mount Baldhead Challenge 2019 Photos 174 Mile Drive 2019 MOUNT BALDHEAD CHALLENGE!!!! The toughest race I have done. I consider it a half marathon because it was only one mile short and the course was so intense.  I was very worried about my calf from Mackinaw.  I thought about switching to the 7.5 course, but my gut said it was all or go home. The night before the run they had a kids race and gave out their left over ceramic medals from 2018.  They had a huge food tent with all kinds of snacks for kid participants.  I picked up my packet at the kids run from some very nice older men.  After the kid's run we ate at our favorite restaurant in downtown Saugatuck, Scooters!  New food items this visit included: sloppy joe, beef vegetable soup and their FRIED TWINKLE of amazingness!!!  Everything at Scooter’s was wonderful.  We found Peace Tea at a gas station on the way to our hotel.  We bought out all the Raspberry and Peach in thei...

BELDING LABOR DAY 5K (Belding - 2019 - 5K)

   Belding Labor Day 2019 Photos 129 Mile Drive We woke up very early and drove out to Belding, MI for their 2019 Labor Day 5K.  The start of the run was right by the Belding water tower.  The course was beautiful with Flat River views and incredibly friendly runners.  Running past the Belding museum and Belding library was very cool.  The historical architecture of Belding was awesome to look at.  It was a hilly course that went in and out of neighborhoods.  The enthusiasm of the announcer, "Duck Man" was out of this world.  I was so excited he let me take his picture.  They announced the last runners coming up and everyone gathered to applaud them. The last woman even landed herself an age group award!  All runners stayed for the entire age group ceremony.  People didn't leave after getting their awards.  I liked that the crowd stayed for the older awards.  For me they are the most amazing and inspiring awards....

SCREAMING BANSHEE (Potterville - 2019 - 13.1 Mile)

   Screaming Banshee 2019 Photos 83 Mile Drive The 2019 Screaming Banshee Half Marathon was awesome but very tough for me.  I debated switching to the 5K or 10K for a week leading up to it.  I hadn’t made up my mind by race day.  I hadn’t made up my mind by start time.  I still considered switching races as I passed the 5K and 10K turn on the course, but I didn’t.  I haven’t run a lot at home in the last two weeks because I’ve been resting a mechanical bull induced muscle strain.  My biggest goal for the 2019 year was not getting better with my times.  I wanted to go an entire year without a major injury.  I am 30 days away from that goal.  I’ve only had a few minor flairs ups this year that I controlled with PT and mileage cutting.  I have a few half marathon traditions.  I try to run eight miles on the Tuesday before and bowl the night before the race.  I didn’t do either before Screaming Banshee.  I ran my lon...
