POLAR BEAR RUN (Okemos - 2020 - 5K)

Image
Polar Bear Run 2020 Photos 67 Mile Drive The 2020 Polar Bear Run put another Lansing city in the books!  I was still recovering from being sick making it exhausting and very hard.  I hadn’t run in a week.  This was my discount birthday run. I saved $45 by not going to the Poho Hot Cocoa. The $45 in savings bought my registration for Winterlaufe in Frankenmuth next week!   Our GPS failed us going up to Okemos.  It led us to the wrong park entrance.  Luckily at this run we arrived with spare time. The course was a beautiful mix of trail scenery through Nancy Moore Park with some street running at the end through Okemos.  I loved the mile timing clocks!  I wish more races had mile timing clocks.  Even at smaller races they are great for runners.  They had a great indoor area for registration and awards next to the Okemos Police Station.  The only thing I was frustrated with was not receiving a race giveaway for registering by January 10th.  You can see my screenshot of this in my album

BLAKE'S FROST FEST 5K (Armada - 2020 - 5K)

Blake's Frost Fest 5K 2020 Photos 61 Mile Drive The 2020 Frost Fest 5K was a run I almost stayed in bed and missed.  Since November 30th I have had an unlucky streak of illnesses plague me; scabies, stomach flu and a terrible long lasting cold.  I thought I was finally through the fatigue and feeling crappy.  I ran twice this week and felt good.  I went to bed Thursday night and my right eye was in a lot of pain. I thought I had poked it really bad until I woke up in the morning with it sealed shut.  I couldn’t bend over at work Friday. I had to get antibiotics during my first e-visit at Henry Ford.   I got concerned looking at the weather system moving over the country Saturday and Sunday.  Michigan was set to get the ultimate winter combination of snow, ice and flash flooding.  In cases of severe weather, I don’t put my family at risk when it comes to runs.  I only do that when I am alone by myself.  (Lansing Pie Run joke)  Someone reached out on the run’s Facebook page the ni

IN WITH THE NEW (Shelby Township - 2020 - 5K)

In With The New 2020 Photos 45 Mile Drive I don’t know what I was thinking.  I ran the 2020 In With the New 5K the morning after running at Belle Isle and having Frye’s Rockin’ Eve until 2:30 in the morning the night before.  Add those to the struggle of recovery from sickness and I was a hot mess.  We still got up and made it out to Shelby Township for a running company I like a lot, Move-It Fitness. Winter Loops (another great Move-It Fitness run) is one of my favorite winter races.  Move-It-Fitness is known for their hilly trail runs and their ultra-running event, 24 hour Twilight Zone!  I didn’t have much time to spare when we arrived.  I was able to get up into the first wave and get a good morning glimpse of the sun through the trees.  Everyone watched movies in the car until I got back. After I complete my Michigan City Challenge I sometimes think I only want to run trails. I love trail running.  It is more difficult and a tad more dangerous, but the raw beauty makes up for it
